Virtuous 3.1.0 Released

After nearly a week of beta testing, Virtuous 3.1.0 has been released.  Either grab it in our download section or ROM Manager.  This was the first time since 2.0 that the ROM was entirely re-based on a new Sense build (10/13 build, detailed in the "other releases" section), which includes a new kernel.  Most of the other changes are maintenance oriented in nature, updating apps to the latest releases and integrating fixes (Flash, audio, etc) which were released as patches to 3.0.1.

Although I have stated this many times, no wipe is required.  However, if you encounter issues, you should wipe before reporting your issue as a bug.  I have been seeing improved responsiveness and battery life with this release but everyone's millage will vary based on your usage.

Thank you! I am stoked!
Are you using the original kernel or the power saving kernel when you reported such excellent battery life?

I'm also curious which kernel for the battery life and wondering why they are not the same version (.15 vs. .17).

Great Rom!

One item. I did a complete wipe and format of internal and external storage before the install, but I don't see a transparent notification bar. Am I missing something?

Thank you! How do we get on the Beta again? I'm a paying customer. ;-)

I am very pleased with this ROM so far.
I installed the ROM last night, got all apps and the launcher installed/configured, did a backup, and powered down my phone while it charged all night.
This morning I woke up @ 7:20am to full battery, checked email for about 5 minutes, streamed DI.fm radio for 15 minutes on my way to work, and got to work with my battery at 77%. I was bothered because my battery drained 23% in 40 minutes, but here I am at work 3 hours since I woke up, and my phone is still at 77%. Since I got to work I have checked email, sent a few texts, messed with my weather widget, and talked for 5 minutes. AND, I have 3 bars, which is an improvement from only having 1. After that much usage I expected to see only 55% especially with only having 1 bar.

I like this kernel. I think I will start using my car charger while streaming DI.fm radio from now on.

He was using the stock kernel. I am as well and it's pretty awesome. Battery life is great and the phone now charges twice as fast as before. The custom kernel cannot be updated yet because the source hasn't been released for the new stock kernel.

You were my first ROM, and perhaps I don't know enough yet to understand why I would need to flash any other. Thank you.
I just hope the IncREDible REVOlution Theme gets updated to work better with this update, but that is truly meant as simply more praise- I won't switch ROMs for the theme, and that means something ;)

When I updated, I went from 3.0.1 -> 3.1.0, and did NOT select to clear the data/cache or whatever.

When my phone rebooted, all my icons/widgets were duplicated/running twice, really strange. I noticed at first that the # of emails in the gmail widget was almost like on a layer behind the icon. I soon realized it was an effect of two overlapping widgets. When I checked, ALL the icons (widgets and regular icons) were dups. I just quickly dragged the top layer to remove them all, and it's fine now. Just a strange thing to happen.

I think I selected the power saving kernel when I installed, but I think I'll try the stock .17 kernel since that's what was used in the reports of the better battery life.

yeah all my icons were overlapping too. except i had like 4 things stacked on my phone. weird. runs better now that i dont have 4 of all my widgets loaded.

Anyone notice any issues with 3g dropping after wifi use?. Did swipe of internal and sysinfo using the power save kernel. Love this rom otherwise.

I got Samsung Fascinate about a week ago. I have rooted my phone and using ClockworkMod. I'm just curious if anyone tried using Virtuous on Fascinate?

If I wanted to try Virtuous on Fascinate, is there anything I should be aware of?

I just tried flashing the new version ( I had 3.0.1 with Revolution Theme). Now the HTC Sense Launcher keeps crashing, and none of my apps appear. Do I need to reboot into recovery mode? Sorry, I am a bit new at this...

I can't get PDFViewer to work, nor will Hulu.

What happened to the Teeter game? I had it installed before I upgraded and now it is gone. I also cannot find it on the market. Can we please have an option to put it back?

I installed Virtuous 3.1.0 on my DInc as an upgrade from Virtuous 3.0.1 and every now & then my DInc will reboot on its own. Is this a known issue? I did a wipe and install as well as cleared out the Dalvik cache and it still reboots on its own every now & then (after I cleared out the Davlik cache, the reboot doesn't happen as often). Note it also happens when I play the Angry Birds game (freezes and then reboots on its own). It seems to work great when it doesn't reboot on its own and I def love this ROM but I wondered if anyone else was having this issue? If you know of a fix, let me know where I need to go or what I need to do. Everything else works GREAT!!! Thanks!

I get the random reboots too.

Hey "rebooters",

I'm on my third DInc. My first two got into reboot loops that *nothing* would fix. Verizon support (and TONS of forum posters) confirmed this is a known error and they're working on it. They sent me a second phone. Still happened. They sent me a third phone - no more problems! Never reboots.

I just wonder if you're a victim of the "bad batch" that they know about and it's a hardware thing - not a software thing and no amount of software will fix it?

Just food for thought.

Thanks so much for the great product. Doing my first flash of Virtuous right now (at the old Droid Eye waiting for boot up). Can't wait!

Unknown said...

I def know it's not a hardware issue since I went back to Virtuous 3.0.1 and my phone doesn't randomly reboot anymore. Any thoughts?

I did notice that I had a couple of things that I should have updated before installing 3.1.0 which may be the cause. I just flashed my radio to 2.15.00.09.01 and my HBoot to 0.79(S-off) and I'm reflashing the ROM to Virtuous 3.1.0 (just backed up my data). Wish me luck guys!

Unknown said...

Didn't work. After about 2 hours my phone started randomly rebooting again so I'm back to Virtuous 3.0.1

I've got a DInc running 3.1 with the custom kernel, and I don't get random boots but I will occasionally have a bootloop after restarting (after bump charging). I upgraded without a wipe from 3.01 and flashed the kernel with ez customizer. I've also noticed significant battery loss compared to 3.01 which was very stable and awesome battery life with custom kernel (v1) and setCPU on conservative.
I'm reflashing 3.1 with stock kernel after a wipe and see if that helps, otherwise I may also go back to 3.01.

First of all I want to give kudos and great thanks for this rom. Being new to Android, rooting, and roms, I nearly completely hosed my dinc, bit I found this rom and it really saved my day.

@ryanmc....the Teeter game can be toggled on in the Virtuous Buddy app.

rmk, love the ROM. Would like to know whether I can flash this MOD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=776495) over the 3.1 ROM.

It includes a modified power dialogue allowing for reboot options on the normal power switch dialogue.

I know Skyraider has embedded this mod; the developer's thread over on xda suggests it's possible with earlier Virtuous ROM; wonder whether you see an issue (or would consider including in future release.
